Workshop 29 July - 2 AUGUST 2019 (FIVE DAYS) Gesture: The heart of characterisation and transformation

Gesture lies at the heart of the entire Chekhov technique: the archetypal gestures are effective training tools for activating and giving substance to the symbiotic relationship between the physical body and the actor’s psyche; the psychological gesture gives life to the character’s will and intentions, transforming the actor.
The five-day workshop will have at its heart the practical exploration of what Michael Chekhov means by gesture and then its application to text and to character. As every aspect of the Chekhov technique connects to every other aspect of it, we will also explore the role of the imagination in finding the gesture and in creating character.
