“The classes offered by Sarah Kane opened up a new world for me: the world of Creative Speech! This approach helped me understand how to trust my body when I speak, rather than judging myself by analyzing too much and getting stuck in my mind. If there's one thing I understand now it's this: your body will always tell you if what you are doing is right or not. So it is a joy to learn to trust oneself in this way!”

E.E.- Speech Workshop on Storytelling

Online Course Reviews

“I recommend the path towards recitation that I myself have had the possibility to do with Sarah just like I would indicate to any friend to walk in Nature to meet the strength, the beauty , the air filled with good forces in order to get closer to oneself as a human being capable of participating to the very being of Nature by creating magic through the word.”

“I attended Sarah's narrative course. Over six sessions online we explored movement, sounds, text. Separating and then bringing them together. It was a joyous experience. We were a lovely supportive group and Sarah is an incredibly perceptive teacher. After each session it was as if magic had occurred and could see the results of the work we had done reflected in my work as a storyteller.”

The Apocalypse Performance Project

To read it alone is enlightening enough….

To enjoy it delivered from without, with such atmospheric strength is altogether something of wonder. Such is the power of voice, to hear is often to feel. Before the performance we are advised that the aim is to become immersed in the performance of sound, that we might even close our eyes, to inwardly visualise this recitation of the account of John of Patmos by these four artists, one of whom creates magnificently apt, heartfelt and accurate sound effects by way of a wonderful array of percussion instruments. Such is the delivery from each of the artists, the distinctiveness of range and pursuant characterisation, that every verse is indelibly impressed upon me, my mind seizing upon every word, my body absorbing every sound, my imagination translating the varying intensity and intonation of vibration, into vivid landscapes complete with colour and texture; spectacular vistas of fire and glass, wings, eyes and horns, jasper, thunder, creatures of mystery, both fearsome and holy. There is real, felt emotion too, with descriptions of bloodletting, pestilence and despair and the desolate finality of forever and ever - the magnitude of the thundering earthquakes adding to the sense of helpless inevitability.

It is an hour and a half, which goes by in the blink of an eye, such is the dramatic sequence of events, and the power with which the performers hold fast my attention. The Book of Revelation can be described as heavy reading; it is obviously often dark and deadly serious yet within the journey to the new Jerusalem lies a message of eternal hope to be held onto in every lowly moment of gloom. Each passage is crucial and alive. The ultimate confrontation between good and evil; the very crux of the question of the meaning of our journey through different lives towards achieving harmony and balance through good actions, thoughts and words. The unforgiving, serious nature of theme must have been, I would imagine, hugely difficult to develop into an artistic performance.

Yet after 90 minutes, I sat as one of an audience, clearly touched and moved, sitting silently, absorbing, inwardly digesting this beautiful work of art which we had all been privileged to have experienced. And still hours later I continue to reflect on this performance of the Book of Revelation, still replaying the conjured images in my mind of heaven and horsemen, of angels and trumpets, of devilish beasts, the fires of hell, the fall of Babylon and the emergence of the new Jerusalem, in awe and appreciation of the performance I have just witnessed, warmly enriched by and enlivened to the exquisite power of speech as art.
My warm gratitude to everyone involved in this production.

"First of all, may I heartily thank you for the most enjoyable fortnight in Moscow and your introduction (for me at least) of the Creative Speech about which I knew nothing. Michael Chekhov work was on my list of things to explore and so when I saw that you would be working in conjunction with Andrei at the Demidov Summer School I signed up immediately. What a double bonus. I feel so inspired by the work and am still riding the high of it all following my return. I take away from your sessions so many ideas not only for my own work as an actor, but to help the youngsters I teach to find another way into their speech and drama. As an over-thinker, it was just what I needed to help me get out of my own way and find the impetus physically and you have set me off on the path hungry for more. Much resonated with attempts I've made to broaden the more traditional approach I've followed in voice, so it was particularly enlightening to find that there are more effective ways to integrate it with the experience I have gained over the years. You pitched it perfectly and I was as fascinated by your process of teaching as I was by the new material - there was sufficient repetition to begin to embed some of the patterns to engage with the body and voice and yet we came away with a veritable toolkit of extended work to take into our own practice. I will be going through my notebook again soon and refining my scribbles. I remain very interested in seeing how this overlaps with Demidov - it clearly does because both derive from internal impulses that appear first in the body, but quite how and why I'm keen to explore further. It also provided such a helpful balance as the Demidov work is very sedentary and it was good to move. So my very grateful thanks for your skill and encouragement and here's to more in London with Andrei (both of them perhaps)."
“Un grand merci à Sarah Kane , effectivement.”

“I discovered that we must move, for inspiration to come in – not to think, but rather, to train one’s body to think, and respond.”
